Individual Assignment Notes
My notes on the process of assigning tasks to various students for independent work towards a group goal. In this case, students were writing about bats; based on the recently discussed terminology of "have/are/can," the teacher assigned topics to students by beginning with the relatively simplest of these ("Who wants to write...something bats have") and began with the students she perceived as most likely to be challenged by the assignment, letting them pick topics while there were still a wide variety of potential topics which the class had previously discussed; by the time the teacher was finishing with this topic, the most "obvious answers" but she was still finding some volunteers with ideas such as writing about "what kind of teeth" bats have, or that bats have "webbed wings." A similar process was followed for "...Are" and "...Can." The last few students in class were allowed to generate their own questions to answer. Notes dated 3/10/14
